The Ideal Horizons - 12012 UV Light Bulb For Germicidal Water Treatment is a 39 watts UV bulb that has a 33.2 inch lamp length. The single pin on both ends lamp bulb gives you a worry-free performance for an entire year and inactivates bacteria, molds, virus and other microorganisms present in water.

The genetic material of the microorganism is deactivated when germicidal UV light passes through them and makes them incapable of multiplying. Researchers are of the opinion that this method of sterilizing water is a purely physical process. It does not affect the chemistry, pH or taste of water in the process and is a much better option to chemicals and their bi-products.

Do I need shatterproof coating?

Although shatterproof coating can lower the intensity of the UV-C bulb by as much as 15%, it is recommended for applications in which it is crucial to avoid potential glass breakage at all costs. However, if glass breakage would be inconvenient but not catastrophic, skipping the costly shatterproof coating is quite alright. After all, we do not use shatterproof coating with our glasses and plates at home.
