The CureUV LED-Cured Headlight Restoration Clear Coat is a professional UV-curable clear coating designed for the restoration and refinishing of polycarbonate automotive headlight lenses. Applied after the damaged, oxidized surface layer has been properly removed, the coating creates a clear, smooth, hard finish and is rapidly cured using a high-intensity UV LED curing lamp.

Unlike conventional headlight coatings that rely on extended air drying, sunlight, or longer UV exposure cycles, this coating is formulated for rapid LED curing. At a recommended UV irradiance of approximately 2,500 mW/cm², with the curing lamp positioned approximately 1–2 inches from the coated lens, the clear coat can cure in approximately 20 seconds. This makes it particularly well suited for professional headlight restoration, automotive detailing, collision repair, dealerships, and shops where fast turnaround and repeatable curing are important.

Features & Benefits

  • Designed for Polycarbonate Headlamp Lenses: Formulated specifically for clear PC automotive headlight lens applications.
  • UV LED Curable: Designed for curing with a compatible high-intensity UV LED source rather than relying on sunlight or extended drying.
  • Approximately 20-Second Cure: Rapid curing is possible at approximately 2,500 mW/cm² under the recommended application conditions.
  • One-Coat Application: Designed to produce the finished clear surface with a single properly applied coat.
  • Spray-Gun Application: Recommended for professional application using approximately a 0.8–1.0 mm spray gun fluid tip.
  • Hard, Smooth Finish: Cures to a firm, smooth surface without the residual tack associated with insufficiently cured UV coatings.
  • Fast Shop Turnaround: Greatly reduces the curing stage compared with restoration systems requiring several minutes of UV exposure or extended ambient curing.
  • Controlled Curing Process: UV LED curing allows the technician to initiate curing after the coating has been correctly applied and positioned.
  • Professional Restoration Alternative: Helps restore the appearance and clarity of deteriorated headlamp lenses without immediately replacing the complete headlight assembly.

For fast, consistent curing, we recommend using the CureUV 500W High-Power UV LED Curing Lamp - 395nm, which provides high-intensity LED output for rapid curing of UV-sensitive coatings.

Recommended Application

  • Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean the headlight and mask the surrounding painted and trim surfaces. Remove the deteriorated, yellowed, cloudy, or oxidized surface layer through the appropriate sanding process. The lens should have a uniform prepared surface before coating. The existing LightRite process likewise emphasizes complete removal of the degraded coating followed by thorough cleaning and drying before clear-coat application.
  • Final Cleaning: Remove all sanding residue, dust, grease, polishing compounds, wax, silicone, moisture, and other contaminants. Allow the lens to become completely dry before coating. Avoid touching the prepared surface with bare fingers.
  • Clear-Coat Application: Apply one uniform coat using a suitable spray gun. Based on the preliminary supplier information, a 0.8–1.0 mm spray tip is recommended. Maintain an even spray pattern and consistent coating coverage across the complete lens, including curved edges.
  • UV LED Curing: Position the compatible UV LED curing lamp approximately 1–2 inches from the coated surface. A UV irradiance of approximately 2,500 mW/cm² at the lens surface is recommended. At this intensity, the expected curing time is approximately 20 seconds. Recommended UV Wavelength: 395 nm

Because headlamp lenses are curved, the lamp should be positioned or moved as necessary so that the complete coated area receives adequate UV energy rather than curing only the center of the lens.

Recommended Curing Lamp: For professional headlight restoration applications, pair this coating with the CureUV 500W High-Power UV LED Curing Lamp 395nm for powerful, consistent UV output and fast curing at close working distances.
